The typical Sardinian villa "Casa S'Antigu" was converted by its owners into a modern, well-equipped minihotel with tastefully furnished rooms as recently as 2001. The spot, where in days gone by you might have seen ox-carts passing to and fro through a great wooden portal, is now occupied by a sun-drenched courtyard with mediterranean plants. A row of wicker baskets decorates the yellow-painted walls of the curved pergola, called a "Lolla", where, just as in days of old, guests can sit on wooden chairs and spend a pleasant hour or so chatting as the evening draws in, before dedicating themselves to a delicious home-made dinner. An open fireplace puts the finishing touch to the traditional atmosphere in the dining room.
The kitchen, dining room and courtyard are all located on the ground floor, as well as a very comfortable double room with 2 separate entrances for wheelchair users and two further double rooms. These are more suitable for families, as they have only one shared bathroom and can be divided from the rest of the house by an extra door.
The upper floor is reached by a wooden staircase, where you will find a further double room with bathroom and beautiful wooden ceiling beams. Before you reach the room from the staircase, you will find a small seating area that has been lovingly decorated with cushions to create a cosier atmosphere on the upper floor.
All the rooms are furnished with tasteful wooden wardrobes, matching bedside tables and beds, and are equipped with mosquito nets on the windows, air conditioning and heating.

| This enchanting and somewhat remote minihotel is located in a quiet side-street of Lunamatrona, a tiny, picturesque village in the Marmilla area north of the islandīs capital Cagliari. There is no shortage of things to do, though. Horse-riding, cycling and walking routes have
been marked out through this hidden paradise so skilfully that you only need to follow the signs to discover for yourself interesting archaeological museums, megalithic burial sites, Nuraghi, delightful church towers, "Domus de Janas" (ancient burial sites) or ruined castles. A walk on the high plateau
at Villanovaforru is recommended, too: starting from the natural history museum, you can take the comfortable route up on the 800m long chairlift. The unlimited all-round views of the original volcanic landscape of the Marmilla and the absolute stillness of nature are without doubt an amazing experience.
In the neighbouring Giara di Gesturi
keen walkers will even come across wild horses and rare birds that are almost forgotten in the rest of Europe. And the sea? And the Beaches? Both are within easy reach: no more than 45 minutes in the car and you can be at the magnificent sandy beaches of the Sinis peninsula near Oristano. | |
